Free-Create Studio Space
San Marcos Art Cafe provides an open, free-to-use studio space where any artist can gather to work on projects of their choosing. Free-Create Studio includes a number of tables, chairs, easels, and stools for use. There are windows for natural lighting, special-manufactured ventilation, and a small garage-style door for small outdoor projects. In addition, we have a collection of tools and art supplies donated from the community. However, we encourage customers to bring (and even share) their own art supplies. Personal supplies can be stored in our locker system or tagged by an employee and kept in our designated storage room for safe keeping overnight. The 1200 square foot space can hold up to 40 artists and their projects. We ask for customers to please be considerate of other artist’s space when bringing oversized work into the studio.
Event Studio Space
On the opposite end of Free-Create Studio is a second studio space designated for special events. San Marcos Art Cafe occasionally hosts art classes and holiday celebrations for creatives of all ages in this space. In the Event Studio, artists can work in communion with one another during our guided art sessions without the worry of bringing supplies and with the added help of our event coordinators and art teachers. Prices for SMAC-hosted events range from a small fee to no cost at all! Official events and celebrations are listed on our Event Studio calendar. In addition, we offer room reservations. Guests are able to reserve our rooms in order to utilize the artist-centered space for parties and gatherings.
Standard Reservation – $45
1 hour 45 minute time limit. Full room and studio supplies are available to guests. Light snacks are provided. Special supplies or food requests come at an additional cost. Please include how many guests will be attending and if there are any food allergies when requesting this form of reservation.
Instructional Reservation – $100 for 10 guests
1 hour 30 minute minimum time limit. Time spent in room may be extended (at no extra cost) due to certain classes taking longer. Guests will participate in a group art class taught by one of our cafe instructors. Supplies are provided except for specific classes (discuss with cafe event organizer for more information). Snacks are provided in the room during reservation time. Parties larger than 10 guests will incur an extra $10 charge per person.

Lobby and Coffee Bar
In addition to its studios, San Marcos Art Cafe offers delicious food and drink at the coffee bar in the main lobby. Customers can choose from an assortment of drinks and pastries from our seasonal menu. These beverages and freshly cooked snacks are the perfect energy for a hard-at-work artist in the Free-Create Studio, or a fun treat during a lesson or party in the Event Studio. Not feeling creative that day? Customers can also buy a meal for eating at one of the various tables, desks, chairs, and couches in the lobby. Check out the online menu for item prices.
